He said with facilities already in place, such as the digital economy centre (PEDi), the people had no excuse not to work towards ending poverty, which is the aspiration of the government.
“I hope these facilities will be fully utilised. Come to PEDi to learn how to participate in the digital economy and how this facility can improve our economy,” he said.
He said the government would ensure that each state constituency has at least one PEDi facility by next year.
He was speaking at a breaking of fast event and computer handover ceremony at his constituency of Lembah Pantai, organised by Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd, TNG Digital Sdn Bhd and the Lembah Pantai MP’s office.
Fahmi witnessed the handover of tablet computers to schoolchildren living at the Seri Pantai public housing estate. The computers were presented by Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd chief executive Praba Sangarajoo.
Target of 90% cashless at bazaars
Fahmi encouraged the people to use cashless payment methods such as e-wallets and QR codes at Ramadan bazaars around the federal capital.
He hoped cashless payments would comprise 90% of transactions by next year, adding, discussions would be held with the industry and Kuala Lumpur mayor Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh to help more traders and hawkers to go cashless in their transactions with customers.
Asked about developments involving 5G wholesaler Digital Nasional Bhd, Fahmi said that the Cabinet is still reviewing the matter with relevant parties but that no decision has been reached as of yet.
