PETALING JAYA:
Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh has warned contractors against name-dropping in an attempt to secure projects in the state.

Rauf said he was aware that many had been using his name to secure projects since he became a politician. Rauf is an Umno Supreme Council member and the party’s Melaka chief.

“(They will say this project) is for King Kong. I understand who they mean when they say King Kong. I know who I am,” he said in his monthly address to the state’s civil servants.

He also said that even his senior officers and heads of state departments have been warned not to use his name to approve projects.

“If any head of department were found to have approved any projects using my name, my officers will open the door wide for (you to) get out from Melaka.”

On a separate matter, Rauf said he was giving state-owned subsidiaries that were facing financial difficulties six months to improve on their performance and present their recovery plans.

Any subsidiary that failed to do so would be shut down or have its management restructured, he warned.

However, he did not name the subsidiaries.
