Oriental Daily News reported that 56-year-old Lau Seck Yan had earlier sought permission from Justice Rohani Ismail to speak.
She then said her body was the vessel for her late husband, Poh Seng Hiap, to address the court.
“I am Poh Seng Hiap, the deceased. I am the one speaking in court.
“My wife did not kill me… My wife did not do anything,” she was quoted as saying.
Rohani then reminded Lau that her trial had not commenced, pending the testimony of witnesses, and that Lau should not be making any statements regarding the case.
However, Lau ignored the instructions and, while continuing to “channel her husband’s spirit”, repeated her claims of innocence.
“Poh Seng Hiap was not murdered, it was ‘ajal’ (fated to die). Poh Seng Hiap is speaking.
“You have to understand that my wife did not kill me. I am Poh Seng Hiap here. Why don’t you listen to me that my wife did not kill me. I was fated to die,” she was reported to have told the court.
The accused was finally persuaded to stop speaking.
Lau, a former lecturer, was an independent candidate in the 2018 Port Dickson by-election.
She was charged with murdering her 55-year-old husband on Jan 23 last year at their home at the Rasah Kemayan Golf and Country Township between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.
The deceased was found with stab wounds in the chest and abdomen.
Rohani set the trial dates from March 3 to 7, and May 17 to 21, 2025.
Lau then requested to have the trial brought forward and that she be granted a “fair hearing”.
However, Rohani explained that being the only judge hearing criminal cases in Negeri Sembilan, her schedule was packed and the dates mentioned were the earliest available.
