Senior officer in PMO ‘reassigned’ over performance issues

The last-minute cancellation of a ‘takbir’ recital on TV featuring opposition leaders is among the ‘blunders’ linked to the officer.

A senior officer of the media and strategic communications division in the Prime Minister’s Office was said to have been reassigned with 24 hours’ notice.
PETALING JAYA:
A senior officer of the media and strategic communications division in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been “reassigned”, believed to be over performance issues.

A source close to the matter told FMT that the officer had been reassigned with 24 hours’ notice.

FMT is withholding the name of the officer pending a comment.

When asked why the officer had been “reassigned”, the source said no reason was given.

Another source said the officer was blamed for the PMO and the community communications department (J-KOM) not being on the same page.

“This is weakening the government’s image,” he said when explaining the decision.

It is believed that the senior officer was held responsible for the last-minute cancellation of a “takbir” recital on TV3 featuring former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and other opposition leaders.

Last month, Perikatan Nasional said it was only informed that the programme had been called off at 10.11pm, nine minutes before it was scheduled to be telecast.

A screenshot of an email from TV3 uploaded on PN’s Facebook page claimed the programme could not be aired due to a “technical issue”.
