“I did not stand in the last general election (GE15) and I won’t be contesting in the state polls too,” the former Kemaman MP told FMT.
Shabery served in various portfolios between 2008 and 2018, namely as the information minister, youth and sports minister, communications and multimedia minister, as well as the agriculture and agro-based industry minister.
He was asked to comment on news reports that he along with former plantation industries and commodities minister Khairuddin Aman Razali would be contesting in the state polls.
Former communications and multimedia deputy minister Jailani Johari is also rumoured to be a candidate for the state elections in Terengganu.
In the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018, Shabery failed to defend his parliamentary seat, losing to Che Alias Hamid of PAS.
In the state polls, which was held at the same time, PAS took over the state government after winning 22 out of the 32 seats up for grabs in Terengganu. BN won the remaining 10 seats.
