PETALING JAYA:
The Kuala Lumpur sessions court today discharged and acquitted Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam from two charges, including spreading fake news regarding Covid-19 two years ago.

The decision was made by judge Nor Hasniah Ab Razak after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Lokman, Berita Harian reported.

On Oct 1, 2021, Lokman, 50, pleaded not guilty to charges of spreading fake news on Facebook. He had claimed that the entry of Indian citizens caused Covid-19 to spread in the country and that the death of a police officer was due to the vaccine.

Based on the charges, Lokman was alleged to have intentionally caused panic among the public and spread false information in a video recording that was uploaded to Facebook.
