In a Facebook post today, Cyberview congratulated Romli over his appointment.
“With over seven years of experience in corporate governance and 15 years as a technology entrepreneur, Romli’s passion for entrepreneurship and talent development has made him a sought-after mentor and adviser in the tech and innovation industry,” the post said.
Romli once served as the political secretary to Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail when she was the deputy prime minister in the Pakatan Harapan administration in 2018.
He currently serves as an investment adviser to the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar.
Several politicians have been appointed to GLCs and statutory bodies under the current unity government.
In March, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki was appointed chairman of Mara, while Penang PKR deputy chief Bakhtiar Wan Chik was appointed MyCreative Ventures chairman.
Former Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub was reappointed Felcra chairman, Subang MP Wong Chen was named non-executive chairman of Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd, and Ahmad Sabki Yusof, the former political secretary to Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, was made the new Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) chairman.
The political appointments have come under fire, with electoral reform group Bersih criticising Anwar Ibrahim’s government for continuing the practice despite his own push for reforms over the past two decades.
Bersih said the prime minister must seize this opportunity to end the decades of political appointments and patronage that have in the past ended in corruption and mismanagement of these GLCs.
