Muhyiddin said he sympathised with Sanusi, the caretaker Kedah menteri besar and PN election director, who was charged with making seditious statements against royalty at a ceramah on July 11.
“This is completely contrary to the promised reforms they once advocated, including the abolition of the Sedition Act,” the Bersatu president and former prime minister said in a statement today.
“This is the ‘truth’ that the people should see.”
Muhyiddin stressed that one of PN’s main policies and principles is to uphold, preserve and defend the sovereignty and dignity of the Malay rulers as constitutional monarchs.
“This principle will continue to be upheld,” he said.
Sanusi pleaded not guilty in the Selayang sessions court to two charges of making seditious statements against royalty.
Both charges were framed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, upon conviction.
He claimed the charges were politically motivated ahead of the six state elections on Aug 12.
