Noting that Kedah is among the poorest states in the country, Anwar said immediate measures must be taken to improve Kedahans’ livelihood – such as by attracting investments.
“I brought investment to Kulim… They (investors) came to negotiate with me for 13 months now, not with you (caretaker Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor),” he said during a ceramah at the party’s electoral office in Kulim today.
Yesterday, Global semiconductor company Infineon Technologies AG announced the expansion of its Kulim facility to build the world’s largest 200mm silicon carbide (SiC) power fabrication (power fab) plant, with an additional investment of up to five billion euros (RM24.9 billion) over the next five years.
It said the investment will lead to an annual SiC revenue potential of about seven billion euros by the end of the decade.
In his ceramah tonight, Anwar added that the decision by Infineon to increase its investment in Kulim was done because the tech giant was confident with the unity government’s stability
He also said he’s been criticised by Sanusi even before he became a prime minister, adding that he has faced criticism for over two decades by political leaders.
“For 25 years I have been mocked every day. But we need to do what is important,” he said.
“You cannot win and lead by shouting and mocking (others). (We need) someone that can do work, and can negotiate with the federal government.”
On July 31, Anwar secured an interim injunction against Sanusi in his ongoing lawsuit against the caretaker Kedah menteri besar.
Anwar filed the suit against Sanusi last December, after the PAS leader allegedly insinuated that the PKR president was “immoral”.
Lawyer SN Nair, appearing for Anwar, said Sanusi “obstinately and resolutely” repeated similar defamatory utterances and statements at two ceramahs recently, despite being fully aware of the lawsuit.
Last month, Sanusi was charged with two counts of making seditious statements against royalty, with the PN election director then describing the charges as “politically motivated” ahead of the Aug 12 state polls.
Sanusi pleaded not guilty to the two charges which relate to his speech at a ceramah in Gombak on July 11.
