“I can’t make a lot of promises but I can tell you that if she wins, I’ll give her direct access to the Prime Minister’s Office,” the PH chairman said at a ceramah at Hulu Kelang last night.
Anwar, who is also PKR president, said this is because he appreciates Juwairiya’s service, especially after the Wanita PKR deputy chief was supposed to contest a different seat.
Juwairiya, who is caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari’s political secretary, held the Bukit Melawati seat prior to the dissolution of the state assembly.
“Yes, she was supposed to contest somewhere else, but I thought about it and felt this seat is a must-win,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar also reminded voters not to take the state elections lightly.
“They (Perikatan Nasional) have a lot of funds. Look at how they pay influencers (on social media),” he said.
“So we have to make sure, especially the young ones, that we make the right decision. Use your rights as voters to save Selangor and Malaysia,” he said.
Hulu Kelang will see a straight fight between Juwairiya and former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who is now the Selangor PN chairman.
Azmin’s candidacy in Hulu Kelang followed months of speculation that the former Selangor menteri besar would not defend his Bukit Antarabangsa seat, which he had represented for three terms since 2008.
He was also Hulu Kelang assemblyman for one term from 1999 to 2004.
Hulu Kelang falls within the Gombak parliamentary constituency, where Azmin was defeated in GE15 by Amirudin, who is also Selangor PKR chief, by 12,729 votes.
