Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki said a multi-agency task force is carrying out the investigation.
“The investigation involves a task force composed of various government agencies, such as MACC, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and others,” Azam told reporters after an event here today.
Malik was detained by MACC under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 in July.
He said he will fully cooperate with the authorities in the investigation.
Malik, who is the founder and chairman of the Malik Group of Companies, is known for bringing artistes from India to perform Tamil concerts in Malaysia.
His group of companies comprises Malik Streams Corporation Sdn Bhd, Malik Maju Sdn Bhd, Malik Streams Properties Sdn Bhd, Malik Streams Antenna Movies Sdn Bhd, and Malik Streams Production & Distribution.
Azam also said MACC does not intend to call up former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng for now.
“I’ll leave it to the police first. For now, there’s no need to call (Ng) up. The police investigation needs to be prioritised,” he said.
Ng was repatriated from the US to assist authorities in the ongoing 1MDB investigation. He reportedly returned at about midnight on Sunday.
Azam also gave an update following the raid on the legal firm Rosli Dahlan Saravana, saying the agency needs the High Court’s approval to obtain more documents involving a client of the firm.
He said the court’s approval was needed as the documents were covered by solicitor-client privilege.
Following the raid on the legal firm last Thursday, MACC also attempted to obtain documents from another firm, Chetan Jethwani & Co.
However, the firm managed to rebuff MACC’s attempt, which was also carried out with LHDN officers, and has sent a letter of objection to Azam.
