PETALING JAYA:
Two local men have been arrested on suspicion of sending criminal threats against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay on Facebook.

Bukit Aman CID director Shuhaily Zain said the first suspect, a 51-year-old, believed to be the owner of the “Nekad Hikers Ventures” Facebook account, was arrested in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.

“The second suspect, a 27-year-old, believed to be the owner of the ‘Jgad Zruu’ Facebook account, was arrested in Bukit Mertajam, Penang,” he said in a statement.

Shuhaily said the cases were being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code, which covers criminal intimidation by anonymous communication, and Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misusing network facilities to transmit anything offensive.

“The case is still at the investigation stage. The public is advised not to make speculations that could affect the investigation.

“Social media users must be aware of sensitive issues, especially those involving public sensitivity and national security.”
