
In a statement, Finas said his appointment is for two years, until Oct 31, 2025.
Azmir, who has a degree in computing from UK’s Sheffield Hallam University, started his career at the creative multimedia division of the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and was previously a managing director at Base FX.
“Based on his extensive expertise and experience in the creative industry, Finas is confident that Azmir will be able to shoulder and carry out the responsibility to drive the Malaysian film industry to a higher level,” said the statement, according to Bernama.
In June, Finas confirmed that Nasir Ibrahim had been removed as CEO.
Astro Awani quoted Nasir as claiming he had received a termination letter from Finas, though no reason was provided.
Nasir was appointed Finas CEO on a two-year contract from Nov 1, 2021. His appointment, however, was heavily criticised by Malaysian Artistes Association president Zed Zaidi.
