PETALING JAYA:
After working together for almost a year to form the Pahang state government, state leaders of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional have signed an agreement to further enhance political stability and state administration.

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the Pahang state unity government was signed in Genting Highlands today by Amirudin Shari (for PH) and Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail (for BN).

Wan Rosdy, who is also Pahang menteri besar, said the agreement was to strengthen and facilitate the administration of the state government and to serve as future reference, Bernama reported.

“The framework of this agreement covers various matters including discussions on appointments, positions, areas of cooperation and planning in this state,” he said at a press conference.

He also said the cooperation between the two major political coalitions in the country proved to be strong despite being tested in the Tioman and Pelangai by-elections in the state which gave victory to the alliance.
Asked if there was an expiry period for the agreement, Wan Rosdy said the two parties would hold discussions if there was any disagreement on a matter.

Amirudin, who is also menteri besar of Selangor, said the agreement followed the model of the federal unity coalition, balanced with the situation in Pahang, to create a more stable state government.

“I believe and hope that this becomes a model for other forms of understanding. In countries like Germany, this is a common matter. In fact, the coalition agreement was displayed to the public (in Germany) after one election or when no decision could be made,” he said.

Amirudin was confident that the agreement would help the people of Pahang to know clearly about the direction, planning and commitment of the state government.

Pahang was the first state where a coalition agreement was signed by partners in the unity government after the general election in November last year.

The BN-PH alliance commands 25 seats in the 42-member state assembly through BN (17) and PH (8) while Perikatan Nasional forms the opposition with 17 seats through PAS (15) and Bersatu (2).
