Admitting that becoming a candidate was not an easy decision, the former chief of defence forces said he was willing to give up a comfortable life as a retiree for a chance to help develop the constituency and ensure the welfare of the people.
“To me, it’s my sacrifice for Kemaman,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.
“So if I come here ready to make sacrifices, please do the same and give me a chance to represent the people of Kemaman,” he said at a ceramah.
In attendance was Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who is also a former defence minister, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Perak Umno chairman Saarani Mohamad.
Raja Affandi also said that he wanted the voters to join him in developing his hometown Kemaman and bringing it to greater heights, adding that he would fight and do his best to win.
Meanwhile, Mohamad, said that Raja Affandi helped guide him during his stint as the defence minister.
He expressed hope that voters would give Raja Affandi a shot at being an MP and bring about political change to the East Coast.
“Insya Allah, the unity government wave will begin in Kemaman and spread all the way to Sungai Golok.”
The by-election on Dec 2 will see Raja Affandi taking on Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is contesting under the PAS ticket in a straight fight for the parliamentary seat.
