He said Amanah believed that taking care of the rakyat’s needs was far more crucial than pursuing political interests.
“In Malaysia, all parties that were once in conflict have eventually become allies.
“That’s why, from the beginning, we have been ready to cooperate with political parties in the unity government.
“If PAS feels that they want to sign an MoU and collaborate with the unity government, we certainly welcome it so that our political situation can be more stable.
“The prime minister (Anwar Ibrahim) can then continue to lead Malaysia and the entire country can prosper,” Adly said after launching the Amanah women’s wing convention in Klang.
In October, Anwar said he had extended an olive branch to PAS and was ready to consider making the Islamic party a partner in the unity government.
However, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang rejected the invitation because he believed the unity government was “impure”, consisting of convicts, former corruptors, and the “court cluster” (referring to Umno leaders who were facing charges in court).
Amanah is a splinter party that broke away from PAS in 2015 after the latter decided to quit the Pakatan Rakyat coalition. Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who was sidelined in PAS’s leadership election that year, led other leaders and members out of the Islamic party.
Adly said Amanah wanted to position itself as a moderate party in the unity government to protect the multiracial setting of the country while promoting awareness of Islam to the public.
He said Amanah has become the referral point for the basic principles of governance in Islam, which never limits one race to rule the government.
“We know that inclusivity is crucial. If we take a path that is too skewed, where only one ethnic group leads the country, it will have significant implications for the future, whether for the Malay community or Islamic society.
“If we observe PAS deviating from the fundamental principles of governance, Amanah is the place to which they can be referred – that is the role we play,” Adly said.
Last week, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party backed the proposal by Bersatu’s Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal to amend the Federal Constitution to ensure that only Malays can become the prime minister for the sake of the country’s “stability and harmony”.
