In a report in The Borneo Post, PSB deputy president Johnical Rayong Ngipa said he was informed by party president Wong Soon Koh that the “green light” had been given for them to join PDP.
However, Rayong said PSB would first need to be dissolved before its 80,000 party members across Sarawak can collectively join PDP.
“Well, we plan to dissolve PSB and join PDP en bloc, where we will be under the big umbrella body of PDP. And of course, we will be part of GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) later,” said Rayong at PDP’s pre-Christmas and New Year gathering in Sibu.
“But first, we need to refer to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on the procedure, including the part on the anti-hopping law.
“After that, we will call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) and dissolve PSB. Likewise, PDP, on their part, will call for an EGM, to receive us en bloc — that is the process.
“We target this to happen as soon as possible — possibly before Chinese New Year.”
On his party post and that of other PSB leaders once they join PDP, Rayong said no conditions had been set.
The Engkilili assemblyman also said he would leave it to PDP president Tiong King Sing to decide on the matter.
In a separate speech at the event, Tiong called on PDP members to prepare themselves for the influx of new members from PSB.
“Ladies and gentlemen, especially those from PDP, we must be ready to accept PSB into PDP soon,” he said.
In August, Tiong said he expected a merger between PDP and PSB to be finalised in December.
The Bintulu MP said the two Sarawak parties were working on resolving a number of issues regarding the merger, which he said would enable both parties to better serve the people of Sarawak.
On July 13, PSB, which only managed to secure three seats in the Sarawak state assembly elections in 2021, announced its support for the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg.
The party also signed a memorandum of understanding with PDP, one of GPS’s component parties.
