PETALING JAYA:
A woman was sentenced to three years’ jail by the Melaka sessions court for splashing boiling water on her son after she caught him watching pornographic videos on her phone.

Sinar Harian reported that judge Sabri Ismail handed down the sentence on the 38-year-old woman, who pleaded guilty after the charges were read.

She was charged with intentionally inflicting severe injuries on her then 13-year-old son by splashing boiling water at a house in a civil servants’ residential area at Sungai Udang, Melaka, around 2.56am on June 27, 2022.

The woman was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, which provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine, or whipping, if convicted.

She is believed to have been angry that the boy, the second of five children, had used her phone’s internet data to watch pornographic videos.

However, a friend’s mother lodged a police report after the friend saw his injuries.

The mother of five, who was not represented, pleaded for a lighter sentence as she has three young children – a 6-year-old disabled child, a 4-year-old, and a 6-month-old.

She also said that following the incident, she suffered increased stress as a psychiatric patient and had to increase her medicine dosage, with the permission of her doctor, from 50mg to 100mg daily.

Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Nazrin Ali Rahim requested for a commensurate sentence to be handed down as a lesson to the accused and the public.

The court then sentenced the woman to three years in prison from the date she was arrested, July 8, 2023.
