PETALING JAYA:
Former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has been appointed as chairman of think tank Social & Economic Research Initiative (Seri).

Seri said Nurul Izzah brings a wealth of experience and expertise in social development, strengthening the think tank’s commitment to continuous prioritisation of inequality and social issues.

“She is a distinguished public servant, political activist and legislator, and has continuously promoted economic and social equity for all Malaysians,” it said in a statement.

“Focussing on vulnerable communities such as the B40 and women, Nurul Izzah has crafted projects dedicated to bettering their lives as well as introducing initiatives such as Malaysia’s Multidimensional Poverty Index report focussed on gauging social-economic well-being.”

Nurul Izzah currently co-chairs the finance ministry’s advisory panel with Petronas senior manager Khairil Anuar Ramli.

Seri said Nurul Izzah’s appointment is part of a wider organisational change, with Jasmine Begum, Chong Kai Wooi and Sanjeev Krishna being newly elected members of the board of advisers.

Other appointments include Rashaad Ali as Seri’s managing director, Dr Helmy Haja Mydin as senior policy adviser, and Dr Yolanda Augustin as senior strategy adviser.

“The introduced strategic changes leverage experts in social, demographic and economic fields, and restructure Seri’s objective to hone in on five key development issues in Malaysia, namely youth, women empowerment, healthcare reform, digital economy, and social justice,” it said.
