KUALA LUMPUR:
Muslims in Malaysia will begin fasting on Tuesday, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, said tonight.

Officials in Singapore and Indonesia have also announced that Ramadan will begin on Tuesday.

Syed Danial said the date was determined after observers attempted to sight the new moon at 29 locations across the country, including Kuala Lumpur Tower and Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Last week, the office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal said the date to begin fasting would be determined by astronomical calculations as well as the observation of the new moon.
