KUALA LUMPUR:
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has denied a viral message claiming that the road transport department (JPJ) has been set a key performance indicator (KPI) of 13,000 summonses for road users during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He said JPJ’s only aim was to ensure road safety and reduce the number of road accidents during the upcoming festive season.

“(JPJ) enforcement will definitely be present (during Hari Raya Aidilfitri), and operations are conducted to ensure compliance with the law.

“If you commit an offence, you’ll be fined,” Loke said during a visit to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan today.

He also reminded the public to be cautious about viral news circulated on social media.

The viral message making the rounds on WhatsApp claimed that JPJ’s Hari Raya road enforcement operations were set to issue many summonses to road users.

It claimed that the agency had been set a KPI target of 13,000 normal summonses from April 1 to 20, and 1,500 vehicles are to be confiscated during the same period.
