
According to China Press, a total of 10 people were aboard the two helicopters.
It said the authorities received a report at 9.45am today stating that two helicopters, models HOM (M503-3) and Fennec (M502-6), had collided and crashed.
The HOM (M503-3) helicopter was reported to be carrying seven people with the remaining three aboard the other.
Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported that the crash occurred at the naval base in Lumut, Perak.
It is understood that they were rehearsing for the Navy’s 90th anniversary event.
A 21-second video of the incident that has gone viral on social media shows one helicopter crashing into the tail of another mid-air, and both diving to the ground after that.
Fragments of the helicopters are seen flying through the air and landing near an open field where naval members were assembled for their rehearsal.
FMT has reached out to the defence ministry for comment.
Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri confirmed the incident when contacted by Bernama.
“So far, the extent of casualties remains uncertain. Further reports will follow,” he said.
