PETALING JAYA:
The first person detained over the acid attack on Selangor FC winger Faisal Halim was not involved in the incident, police said today.

“The first person detained has no connection with the case,” Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

He said the man would no longer be investigated for this case although he would be re-arrested as he had tested positive for drugs.

Hussein said that according to the police investigation, the second suspect arrested in Bandar Baru Bangi last night had ridden a motorcycle with a registration number belonging to the first suspect, leading to the latter’s arrest in Ampang yesterday.

Faisal was splashed with acid at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara on Sunday. He is currently in the intensive care unit at a private hospital in Shah Alam with fourth-degree burns.

Selangor Football Association deputy president Shahril Mokhtar said Faisal underwent a four-hour procedure last night after being transferred to Selangor FC’s panel hospital.

Shahril added that Faisal would need to remain in the hospital for another four weeks.

According to a report by Astro Arena, Faisal’s left hand is currently “unresponsive” and is being closely monitored by medical staff.
