The home ministry, in adopting Kampung Beng, said RM2.5 million will be allocated to transform the area and improve the local quality of life.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the village was chosen for its distinctive qualities, especially its position near the Lenggong Valley archaeological site, recognised by Unesco in 2012.
Kampung Beng is made of six smaller villages: Kampung Durian Lubuk, Kampung Beng Dalam, Kampung Dusun, Kampung Sekolah, Kampung Durau and Kampung Batu Ring.
“This village has a unique advantage and its potential is substantial,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
He also said the ministry will improve public facilities such as electricity and water supplies.
Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said Kampung Beng is famous for its homestays and was one of the main attractions of Visit Perak Year 2024, highlighting the unique history and the beautiful natural environment in Lenggong.
The village adoption programme was announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim last week. He said all government leaders, including himself, would take responsibility for overseeing a village to directly understand the local issues.
Since then, the public services department adopted Pulau Aman in Selangor, with a RM2.5 million grant, while the natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry adopted Kampung Aril in Melor, Kelantan.
