Kuantan police chief Wan Zahari Wan Busu confirmed the arrest, adding that the stolen car was also recovered.
“The suspect was detained in Bentong, and the car has been found,” he said to Berita Harian.
The man is alleged to have stolen the car from a petrol station in Semambu at 3.10pm on Monday, with a retired teacher still in the passenger seat.
The incident was captured on the petrol station’s CCTV.
Police said the thief waited for the driver to go to the toilet, then he hopped into the driver’s seat and sped off, before letting the woman go about 400m away. The woman was unharmed.
