PETALING JAYA:
The father of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, an autistic six-year-old boy believed to have been murdered, today claimed that he was being persecuted.

Zaim Ikhwan said this as he was ushered into the magistrates’ court here, along with his wife, Ismanira Abdul Manaf. The duo were brought to court by police who are seeking an extension of their remand.

“I am being persecuted. All of these are lies,” he was heard saying, Berita Harian reported.

His remarks led to a commotion involving a group of 20 people believed to be the couple’s relatives.

The group had also held up banners calling for justice for Zayn, as well as for Zaim and Ismanira.

The court later extended the couple’s remand for another six days.

Their lawyer, Fahmi Abd Moin, said their remand would now end next Wednesday.

The media were barred from covering the proceedings as the case is still being investigated.

Zayn was reported missing on Dec 5 last year. He was found dead about 200m from his home in Damansara Damai the next day.

The autopsy results reportedly revealed signs of self-defence wounds, while the cause of death was injuries to the neck believed to be caused by strangulation.

Police arrested the couple last Friday.

Yesterday, police said they were seeking to extend the couple’s remand to assist in an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
