Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg said the announcement of the new Senate president would be made by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

PETALING JAYA:
Abang Johari Openg has confirmed that a Sarawakian will once again be appointed as the Senate president to succeed the late Mutang Tagal.

The Sarawak premier said the announcement would be made by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Borneo Post reported.

“Let’s wait together. Of course, it will be a Sarawakian who will be appointed. Otherwise, ask the prime minister because I don’t know (who will be appointed),” he was quoted as saying.

Anwar previously said several names had been proposed to fill the post that was left vacant after Mutang died at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on May 10.

Mutang was appointed as the 20th president of the Dewan Negara on Feb 19, replacing Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar who relinquished the post following his appointment as the Sarawak governor.
