Aidil, also known on social media as YB Viral, said the demonstration would be peaceful and urged the police to facilitate instead of arresting its participants.
He said the group has the right to hold the demonstration, as it pledged not to use violence and to comply with regulations to ensure a smooth rally.
“This land is not private property, it’s funded by taxpayers,” he said, referring to Perbadanan Putrajaya, owner of the land where the prime minister’s official residence is located.
He said they have submitted the required documentation and notices ahead of the assembly.
This sentiment was echoed by Pejuang information chief Rafique Rashid Ali, who was also present at today’s press conference.
“Come what may, we’ll still proceed with the anti-Anwar rally,” he said.
Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said the “Rakyat Lawan Anwar” organiser would be breaking the law if it proceeded with the gathering as it had failed to obtain the consent of the land owner, Perbadanan Putrajaya, as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act (Act 736).
The rally is scheduled to be held in front of Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence in Putrajaya.
On June 22, the police summoned three influencers from the Demi Negara movement for their statements: Aidil, Tunku Intan Abdul Hamid (Dayangku Intan) and Siti Zulaikha Olivia (Mak Iban Olivia).
Aidil said the rally-goers will make eight demands, including calls to prevent the increase of the RON95 petrol price, address local rice shortages, and tackle unaddressed issues after the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also said the rally will call on the government to address the rising cost of living, protect public healthcare staff, ensure fair wages, uphold freedom of speech, and maintain economic sovereignty.
“This is the first rally in history where the people decided to gather in front of the prime minister’s official residence to send a warning to Prime Minister (Anwar Ibrahim) that (he has) failed to govern the country and has to hear the cries of protest from the people,” he said.
