Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd said the floods forced the closure of several electrical feeder lines, cutting supply at the Moyog water treatment plant, Lok Kawi wildlife park, Lok Kawi army base and Kota Kinabalu district forestry office.
It also said two high-voltage utility poles in Kiulu were affected by a landslide following the torrential rain this evening, according to Bernama.
The company advised the public to stay clear of installation areas as repairs are made. “We expect some delays in the recovery of electricity supply as many routes are submerged by floodwaters,” the company added.
Flash floods had hit Penampang and Sipitang after hours of heavy rain since early in the afternoon, with many roads rendered impassable and several villages were also affected.
A landslide near Kampung Timpolon completely blocked off Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Keningau-Tenom while the floods also submerged several bridges on Jalan Limbanak and Jalan Pukakon-Pomotodon. These incidents left no alternative routes for users.
The Sabah disaster management committee said a temporary relief centre was opened in Penampang at 5.25pm to house a family of three who were forced to evacuate their homes.
Penampang MP Ewon Benedick allocated RM20,000 in immediate aid to flood victims in the area, handing the funds to the district disaster management committee.
Ewon, who is also entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, said he had also postponed several events in the peninsula and informed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim about the situation in Penampang.
