PETALING JAYA:
Police arrested a man driving recklessly along Jalan Batu Ferringhi in Penang who crashed into several vehicles following  a chase yesterday.

Videos showing the chase involving the car driven by the man and several motorcyclists, including a few policemen, as well as his arrest have since gone viral.

Timur Laut police chief Razlan Abdul Hamid said the 30-year-old suspect was discovered with drugs, including ganja and methamphetamines, in his sling bag during his arrest yesterday evening.

He said the suspect had been arrested previously  for a criminal case and two drug-related cases.

“A urine test showed the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” he said in a statement.

His statement followed a video showing police and several motorcyclists trying to stop the man as he drove along the winding road recklessly and also a video of his arrest after the chase came to an end.

According to Razlan, the case is being investigated under Sections 6, 12(3) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952; Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987; as well as Section 186 and Section 427 of the Penal Code.

The suspect has been remanded for four days from today.
