
Abdullah Daud, 70, and Mohamad Awang, 48, nodded as the charges were read out before judge Fatimah Zahari, Berita Harian reported.

Abdullah faced four charges, while Mohamad was charged with one. No plea was recorded as the case is under the High Court’s jurisdiction.
Abdullah was accused of allowing his home to be used for supporting terrorist activities and for possessing two digital books in PDF format and two videos on his phone related to IS and terrorism.
These offences allegedly took place between Sept 3, 2023 and April 4, 2024, and between June 23 and June 28, 2024, at his home in Kampung Melayu Kangkar Pulai, Johor Bahru.
The charges against Abdullah were framed under Sections 130JB(1)(a), 130G(a) and 130H(a) of the Penal Code, which pertain to possessing items associated with terrorist activities and inciting terrorism.
If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison, fines and the seizure of property.
Meanwhile, Mohamad was accused of possessing IS-related materials on his phone and laptop, with the offence allegedly occurring on June 23, 2024 at his house in Taman Daya, Johor Bahru.
The charge was also framed under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code.
Deputy public prosecutors Rullizah Abdul Majid and Lina Hanini Ismail prosecuted, while the accused were not represented.
The court set Sept 18 for the next case mention.
Ex-convict faces IS offences in Kota Bharu
In a separate case in Kota Bharu, an ex-convict was charged in the sessions court here today with four counts of possessing materials related to the IS group, Bernama reported.
Nik Shalahuddin Zakaria, 40, who had served a three-year prison sentence for a similar offence, nodded after the charges were read out before judge Zulkifli Ablla.
No plea was plea was recorded as the case is under the High Court’s jurisdiction.
On the first two charges, Nik Shalahuddin was alleged to have items related to terrorist acts and IS, involving 1,020 photos, 26 videos and 321 articles, in a PDF format in a mobile phone.
Similar items, comprising 378 photos, 36 videos and 244 articles in PDF format were also found in another cell phone belonging to him.
The offences were allegedly committed in Kampung Senang, Kota Jembal, Kota Bharu, last June 10.
The charges were framed under Section 130JB(1) of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum prison sentence of seven years or a fine and the confiscation of any property that was used or intended to be used in committing the offence upon conviction.
For the third charge, the man was alleged to have given support to the IS terrorist group by using the Facebook social media application under the name of Ahmad Saif Al-Islam Il.
The charge was framed under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of not more than 40 years or with a fine upon conviction.
Nik Shalahuddin was charged with being a member of the IS group by performing the “Baiah” ceremony with IS leader Abu Hafs Al Hashimi Al-Qurashi as a caliph to support the IS terrorist group in Kampung Senang last June 10.
The offence, under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 40 years or with a fine upon conviction.
Not bail was offered and the court set Aug 19 for mention.
