PETALING JAYA:
The sessions court here was informed that the full name of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, who was murdered, has been changed to Zayn Rayyan Zaim Ikhwan.

The lawyer for the boy’s parents, Fahmi Moin, said the national registration department in Selangor issued a new birth certificate after Zayn’s mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, made the amendment to the deceased’s full name, Sinar Harian reported.

Fahmi said this when applying for Zayn’s name in a charge sheet to be amended.

Zayn’s father is Zaim Ikhwan Zahari.

“I submit a copy of the new birth certificate which we received on July 4,” Fahmi told the court.

Judge Syahliza Warnoh then ordered the prosecution to verify the change.

Meanwhile, lawyer Mahmud Jumaat confirmed to the court that he was no longer representing Ismanira.

Mahmud had acted as Ismanira’s lawyer when she was charged, while Zaim was represented by Fahmi.

The couple are charged with child neglect under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, they could each face a fine of not more than RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both.

The offence allegedly took place at Jalan PJU 10/1, Damansara Damai, between noon on Dec 5, 2023, and 9.55pm the following day.

Zayn was reported missing in Damansara Damai on Dec 5 last year. He was found dead the next day.

The post-mortem revealed multiple injuries, including defensive wounds, while the cause of death was believed to be strangulation.
