Speaking to reporters after launching the Visit Kedah Year 2025 campaign at KL Tower here, Sanusi said there are guidelines for concerts in Kedah to ensure they do not violate customs and decorum.
“Among these conditions include avoiding indecency and ensuring appropriate artists,” he said.
“Concerts are not forbidden… We are not anti-concerts… I encourage male artists. However, sexy female artists are not allowed. This is not in line with our customs and culture.”
In October 2022, the Kedah state government banned all concerts that “could lead to immoral behaviour”.
Sanusi said the decision was made after a concert held at the Alor Setar Art Gallery in which young men and women were dancing with each other.
In February this year, a hip-hop concert in Alor Setar sparked controversy over inappropriate behavior by those attending. The organisers later apologised as they said the concert was not approved by the state government.
In other developments, Sanusi said Perikatan Nasional has yet to discuss the forthcoming by-election for the Mahkota state seat in Johor following the death of the incumbent, Syarifah Azizah Syed Zain, last Friday.
“Wait for the Election Commission’s writ,” said Sanusi, who is also the PN election director. “Don’t rush, be patient.”
The EC will hold a meeting on Aug 13 to decide on dates for the by-election.
Former Johor Wanita Umno chief Syarifah won the Mahkota seat with a 5,166-vote majority over Amanah’s Taqiuddin Cheman at the 2022 Johor state election.
