KUALA LUMPUR:
A retired Royal Malaysian Air Force major-general pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to two counts of receiving a total of RM300,000 for the construction of a house between 2021 and 2022.

Zainal Abdul Manaf, 61, is charged, in his capacity as the then assistant chief of staff of the air force, with having received for himself payments of RM200,000 and RM100,000 for the construction of a house from an individual connected to his official duties.

The two offences were allegedly committed at a bank in Wangsa Maju, Jalan Wangsa Delima 11, D’Wangsa here on Dec 22, 2021, and March 15, 2022.

The charges were framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Judge Suzana Hussin granted bail of RM35,000 with one surety. Zainal was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court and to report to the Putrajaya Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office once a month.

The court set Sept 26 for next mention of the case.

MACC deputy public prosecutor Aznika Anas appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Simret Singh represented Zainal.
