PUTRAJAYA:
The Bumiputera economic transformation plan 2035 (Putera35) can help increase the number of Bumiputera companies listed on the stock exchange, Bursa Malaysia chairman Abdul Wahid Omar said.

He said there were only 62 Bumiputera companies among 945 public-listed companies in 2022, an involvement of only 7%, while Bumiputera equity ownership in Malaysia is around 20%, based on past data.

“We will get many more Bumiputera companies listed in the future,” he said after the launch of Putera35 yesterday. “More equitable control and involvement in the national economy will provide equitable opportunities to Bumiputeras in business and in employment.”

Wahid also said Bumiputera companies could help strengthen or improve the renewable energy and technology sectors, as well as the oil and gas industry.

Putera35 was launched by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday. It is supported by three cores, 12 growth drivers and 132 initiatives for Bumiputera development.
