PETALING JAYA:
One of the three students reported missing after the boat they were in capsized in Sungai Kayan at Lundu, Sarawak, has been found dead by the search and rescue team.

Sarawak fire and rescue department director Tiong Ling Hii said the body of Vilkie Wilson, 15, was found by villagers about 10m from the department’s control post at Kampung Selampit near the river at 11.58am.

“The body will be handed over to the police and taken to Lundu Hospital,” he said, according to Bernama.

The search for the two other students – Alsma Jithil, 14, and Helena Fasha, 17 – continues.

Today’s search had been affected by rainy weather, causing strong river currents and affecting visibility underwater.

In the 6.10am incident yesterday, the boat ferrying 20 people, including 13 students, sank in Sungai Kayan. Sixteen of them managed to swim to safety while one student was swept away by the currents for about 1km before being rescued by villagers.
