In a statement, Prasarana said the incident has not disrupted its daily operations and it is working with cybersecurity experts to investigate and mitigate the situation.
It also said it is coordinating with the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) and CyberSecurity Malaysia to provide a thorough response and safeguard its systems against any threats.
“Our focus remains on resolving the matter promptly while ensuring that our services continue to meet the needs of the public,” it said.
“We will continue to provide updates as appropriate.”
Prasarana was responding to social media reports that potentially 316GB of its data from its website has been compromised because of a ransomware attack.
In a post on X last night, cybersecurity platform Falcon Feeds.io reported that the ransomware group known as RansomHub also threatened to publish Prasarana’s data within six to seven days.
Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) designed to block access to a computer system or files, typically by encrypting the data, until a ransom is paid to the attacker.
Prasarana owns and operates a wide range of transport services under RapidKL, including the light, mass and bus rapid transit systems (LRT, MRT and BRT), KL monorail and a fleet of stage buses.
