Yeoh said these preparations involve four players who are part of the Road To Gold (RTG) programme, namely Ng Eain Yow, S Sivasangari, Aifa Azman and Aira Azman.
She pointed out that nations like China had already begun preparing their athletes for the 2028 games, and said Malaysia must do the same if it wants to win its first Olympic gold.
“We have intensified our efforts to prepare the four athletes and are funding their training in preparation for Los Angeles 2028,” she told reporters at the Royale Chulan Damansara hotel here.
In July, the ministry approved the national squash squad’s request for coaching assistance, training and rehabilitation equipment, medical support, sports science and technical expertise services, as part of the RTG programme.
The ministry has also recruited Malaysian squash legend Nicol David to help the squad, with the sport making its debut at the 2028 Olympics.
Meanwhile, Yeoh declined to comment on a proposal that the national football squad, Harimau Malaya, should be privatised, asking reporters to wait for the Football Association of Malaysia to address the matter.
Previously, Johor regent and Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim floated the idea of privatising the Harimau Malaya squad.
