PETALING JAYA:
PAS has proposed that the Islamic development department (Jakim) introduce distinct halal logos to differentiate between food products made by Muslim and non-Muslim companies.

The party’s information chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, said this proposal was among the five motions that did not need to be debated at the 70th PAS muktamar in Temerloh, Pahang, today.

The proposal, put forward by Parit PAS, aims to help Muslims avoid uncertainty and confusion regarding the halal status of food products available in the market, Berita Harian reported.

Another motion, regarding petroleum royalties in Terengganu, was also proposed but not debated.

Pandan PAS also proposed that the party target two million members, while the Pontian chapter suggested reviewing policies for foreign worker intake. Both proposals were accepted but not discussed.

Pontian PAS expressed concerns that the growing number of foreign workers might impact job opportunities for locals, while Jerlun PAS’s proposal called for the revitalisation of Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas) to become a leading force in the national rice industry.
