State director Nadzri Che Ani said the seizures included 5,000kg of tin powder, with a value including tax of RM450,000, seized from a lorry in Mersing, Johor, on Aug 17.
“The tin is believed to have been smuggled in from Indonesia by boats for use in the manufacturing industry near Mersing.
“The driver and his assistant were detained for further investigation.”
A total of 4,015kg of tobacco powder, worth RM77,088, including tax, was also seized during the inspection of a container at Northport in Port Klang, Selangor, on Sept 3.
Nadzri said the delivery agent had declared the items as food products. It was wrapped in transparent plastic and stored in 803 large boxes, hidden behind other items, in the container.
Nadzri said a Lotus luxury car, worth RM531,960 including tax, was also seized at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya at about noon on July 17.
He said the vehicle, believed to have been smuggled in from Singapore, had been hidden in the parking lot of the shopping centre building for the past three months waiting for a buyer.
