PETALING JAYA:
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor has called for members of all royal families to showcase good manners in public settings and on social media platforms.

The sultan said this during a meeting with the Regent of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Iskandar, at the Selangor palace on Tuesday.

According to a post by the Selangor Royal Office on Facebook, Sultan Sharafuddin said such exemplary conduct must be displayed to earn the people’s respect and affection.

“(Sultan Sharafuddin) further advised to avoid discussing sensitive matters involving the Malay rulers on social media,” it said.

The royal office said Sultan Sharafuddin stressed the need for unity and strong cooperation among the nine Malay rulers, asserting that they must work together and support each other when addressing challenges faced by the people.

“This is crucial because the role of the Malay rulers now extends beyond religious matters and also includes other contemporary issues,” it said.

The royal office also said the meeting addressed the need to prevent conflicts in football that could lead to hostility.

“The sultan reiterated that football, a sport that has long united the community, should be preserved and maintained as a platform for national harmony.”

Yesterday, it was reported that both the sultan and Tunku Ismail agreed that any football rivalry between the different states should remain strictly on the field.

In a related post on Tunku Ismail’s Facebook page, both royals also called for respect and unity to be maintained when players are off the field.
