BBC reported that Teo Jia Xin, 22, arrived from Malaysia earlier this year to study at Coventry University.
She gave birth to her baby at full term on March 4 and placed her in a cereal box inside a sealable plastic bag, which was placed in a suitcase.
The report said Teo went to a hospital showing signs of having given birth, but she denied having done so after being questioned by hospital staff.
She later admitted to having given birth, and only told the police where she hid the baby two days later.
The police said Teo declined medical help and gave birth at home, while hiding it from her flatmates, as she did not want her family and friends in Malaysia to find out about it because it would affect her studies.
In court, she claimed she heard voices which told her to kill or harm the baby, but a jury at Warwick Crown Court rejected her defence.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the baby “was alive after birth and could have survived but Jia Xin Teo made the decision to place her inside a cereal box knowing that it would kill her”.
Teo will be sentenced at a later date.
