Bachok MP Syahir Che Sulaiman of PAS said a pilot programme could help the government gauge the effectiveness of the framework and prevent delays in future implementation.
He also urged the government to engage with various stakeholders, including workers, employers, and business owners to ensure that the data gathered will accurately reflect the realities faced by citizens and businesses.
“Ideally, all policy planning and formulation should be grounded in accurate data, comprehensive stakeholder engagement, on-the-ground reality checks, and a high degree of empathy from the government,” he said in a statement.
Earlier today, economy minister Rafizi Ramli said the details surrounding the T15 income group would be finalised in a month before it is tabled to the Cabinet for approval.
He also said the T15 group will likely be determined based on locality rather than a national definition, guided by a household’s net disposable income and the number of dependents.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 2025 budget on Oct 18, said several subsidies will be withdrawn for the T15 group.
Various parties have since urged the government to clarify which households would be considered T15 and review the classification of household income to ensure that targeted subsidies help the right groups.
