Safee said the timing is perfect for Tunku Ismail, who is more popularly known as TMJ, to take on this role as he is the most qualified individual being the owner of the successful Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) team.
“JDT’s record, facilities, and management practices speak for themselves. There have never been any salary arrears, and the team spirit is strong, resulting in significant achievements,” he said in an Instagram post yesterday.
“Not only is JDT recognised in the local league, but it is also known throughout Asia and the world.”
Former national team coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan made a similar call recently, saying Tunku Ismail would help strengthen both FAM and Harimau Malaya.
This comes after Tunku Ismail said last Friday that he would not be joining FAM, but the football governing body will “join me”.
Tunku Ismail served as FAM president in 2017 but stepped down a year later following criticism regarding Malaysia’s decline in FIFA rankings.
FAM and Harimau Malaya are currently facing several challenges, including uncertainty in coaching after Kim Pan Gon’s departure, allegations of mismanagement and a decline in performance.
Fan dissatisfaction is palpable, particularly in light of the team’s struggles and the management’s handling of these issues, leading to a boycott of this year’s Merdeka Tournament.
