Work on Block C of the J Satine development was halted after residents of the nearby Wangsa Sari People’s Housing Project (PPR) filed complaints with DBKL over an explosion at the construction site, purportedly due to a structural failure of the building.
Checks by DBKL found that the incident had caused cracks on the shear wall, pillars, and floors of units on the eighth floor and above at the block under construction.
It ordered the contractors to appoint an independent engineer to conduct a structural integrity check on the entire J Satine development.
“The cause of the explosion and structural failure have yet to be determined pending the structural integrity report which will be submitted to DBKL,” it said in a statement.
DBKL also ordered contractors to conduct rectification work based on the report’s recommendations, saying the stop-work order would remain in place until this was completed.
“DBKL views this incident seriously. We advise the public against speculating on the matter or making baseless statements, especially on social media.”
Yesterday, the project’s developer Gandingan Jakel acknowledged viral videos and pictures of the project and maintained that all safety measures had been followed in its construction.
“We’re teaming up with expert advisers and a special task force to give you a true picture of the project’s status.
“We want to provide an accurate assessment and to show that the construction site issue has been misrepresented,” it said in a statement.
