This is despite a Nov 14 report quoting PTPTN CEO Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid as saying the corporation was considering stopping funding for university courses with student repayment rates below 30%.
Norliza said Dasuki’s suggestion was made during an online workshop.
“However, no decision has been made yet as we need to conduct further studies which have yet to begin,” she told FMT.
Norliza said once the study was complete, PTPTN would share its findings with the public.
She added that PTPTN had not announced any plans to discontinue funding, and that students should not worry about the matter.
PTPTN had disbursed a total of RM74 billion in loans as of September.
In a written parliamentary reply, higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said that by the end of last year, PTPTN had approved 3,951,404 loans involving RM71 billion.
However, more than 2.7 million loans, totalling RM32 billion, remained unpaid.
Zambry also said that 72% of the loans were granted to Bumiputera students and 28% to non-Bumiputera students.
