PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) structure is set to be revamped next year as the graft buster seeks to eradicate “grand corruption” in the nation.

MACC chief Azam Baki said the agency’s structure will undergo a transformation aimed at improving the way it approaches assignments while making each division more effective in its role.

“As the chief commissioner, I will ‘revamp’ the approach used in MACC so that it will not be trapped in its comfort zone.

“We have to go through a transformation to increase our effectiveness and expertise so that officers are more professional and carry out impactful work,” he said, according to Bernama.

In particular, he said MACC’s inspection and consultancy division will be rebranded as the governance investigation division.

“It is important to not allow any space or opportunity for corruption by strengthening governance and governance practices.”

Azam said the anti-graft agency’s focus next year will be on eradicating “grand corruption”, which refers to graft in the top levels of government or business, as well as combating corruption in government procurement and enforcement.

He said this would help the economy by reducing leakages. MACC will also seek to return misappropriated assets and funds in 2025.

Azam said MACC will also review its SOPs under the chief commissioner’s standing orders as corruption cases were becoming more complex.
