Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said promoting physically fit police officers with a BMI of less than 28 will ensure they can provide the best service to the nation.

PETALING JAYA:
Police officers must have a body mass index (BMI) of less than 28 to be considered for promotion, says Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.

In a Berita Harian report, he said the BMI requirement was one of the criteria the police have added to ensure a stricter promotion process.

“This requirement is important to ensure the health and skills of police personnel.

“It also enhances their ability to provide the best service to the nation,” he said during the police monthly assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.

Razarudin said the police have also strengthened the promotion process to make it more transparent, fair and equitable.

“The policy to promote senior police officers has been improved through the implementation of online courses and competency assessments,” he said.

“This aims to prevent issues such as favouritism and to ensure the selection of suitable, efficient and qualified candidates.”

Meanwhile, Razarudin said 1,350 probationary constables are set to undertake diploma programmes in management, investigation, national security and intelligence.

He said the police are committed to ensuring every member of the force is knowledgeable, competitive and competent in facing challenges through enhanced training.

Razarudin added that the police have established strategic partnerships with public universities to produce professional and credible police officers through relevant academic programmes.
