PETALING JAYA:
A 60-year-old man has been fined RM1,600 by the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court for assaulting a Puspakom employee after his lorry failed an inspection.

Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin imposed the fine after Koh Soon Hua pleaded guilty to the charge read to him in Mandarin, Berita Harian reported.

Koh faces two months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

He was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Suzaini Taib at Puspakom on Jalan Bertam 23, Johor Bahru, at about 5.40pm on Nov 18.

The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to a year in prison, a maximum RM2,000 fine, or both, if convicted.

Koh, who was unrepresented, requested a lighter sentence, saying he was jobless. He said he has high blood pressure and is being looked after by his son.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Aishah Latif.

A recording of the incident had gone viral recently.
