PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) branch in Segamat has detained a man for offering bribes to police officers.

According to a source from MACC, the 30-year-old suspect was arrested at the Segamat police headquarters at around 3pm yesterday.

The suspect was reportedly arrested during an inspection of a Toyota Hilux in which he had been travelling with four others. The police checked their identities and found that all five had drug and criminal records.

“Further checks were carried out on the body of the vehicle, in which various types of drugs and tools suspected to be used for burglary were found.

“During the arrest process, the suspect tried to bribe police officers with RM18,500 and asked not to be arrested,” the source said today.

When contacted, Johor MACC director Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest. He said the case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
